Stitch Fix

Hi Everyone!

I'm sure most of you know what the title of this post refers to.  For those of you that don't, Stitch Fix is a styling service website where you get monthly (or more often, based on preference) "fixes" of fashion items.  You fill out a profile on their website, and a stylist will style a fix for you based on it.  So you basically get a present every month!  Of course you have to pay for the service, it's $20 per fix, and you get five things sent to you.  Keep the items you want, and mail back the items you don't want.  Check out online, the $20 styling fee applies to the stuff you keep.

It's a really fun service.  I jumped to it when I first found out about the service.  But then I wasn't really liking my monthly fixes.  I felt that the stylist didn't really get me.  So I cancelled for a while, then decided to give it another try.  My November fix was surprisingly good!  When I opened the box, at first glance I wasn't very impressed.  But I still tried on each item.  To my surprise, one of the blouses that I tried on was very flattering!  And the jeans that were sent to me - let me tell you, I already have a handful of black jeans - but this pair, I kept it because it was so incredibly comfortable.

It's truly a fun experience each time I get my box of fixes.  I eagerly await its arrival when the date is close, and when I finally see it at my doorstep, it's like, "Ok, the kids can wait on their dinner.  Mama is trying on clothes first!"

Here's my most recent fix.  I paired the blouse with the black pants, and accessorized the ensemble with a black glittered Rebecca Minkoff clutch and Valentino Rockstud pumps.  On my lips I'm wearing a plum-colored lipstick.  Perfect for the season.  The rather business-like pairing suddenly look hip when I added fun and edgy accessories to it.  I'm still relatively conservative.  My idea of "edgy" is as edgy as a mother-of-three type of edgy gets.  ;)

Coral Me Mine

Happy Friday!

It's been a couple of weeks since I did a fashion post.  24 hours in a day just isn't enough!

But since my boys are off from school today, I am forced to stay home.  And since they are home,  my photographer is finally free as well. :)

I scored this beautiful coral BCBG dress when we were on vacation in Maui.  We were doing a family photo shoot and I didn't have anything to wear.  If you read my post about that vacation, you might recall seeing this dress.  It was on sale, it was perfect for photos, so I bought it.  I wore this dress again for my children's piano recital this past Saturday - which was phenomenal, by the way.  I can't tell you how proud I am as their mom when I watch that all their efforts from practicing has paid off.  *beam*

And you know me.  I love finding multiple ways of wearing a dress.  It's just more bang for your buck when you can style a fancy dress for casual wear.  I went the casual route for the recital, and it was the perfect balance - since it was a Halloween-themed recital, it wasn't meant to be fancy and stuffy.  Yet, at the same time, it IS a performance, and there WAS an audience. I didn't exactly want to go in flip flops and shorts. I think my outfit stroke the perfect note.  Pun intended!

This is my first pair of Jimmy Choos.  And my gosh, now I know what all the hype is about.  They're so incredibly comfortable.  I never thought they were that appealing - I like my fancy shoes really fancy.  Like, bling bling fancy.  Somehow Jimmy Choos never caught my eye. But I needed a pair of shoes in a metallic silver/gold color for an upcoming wedding. I searched up and down my local mall, all over the internet, and finally settled on this one.  And am I really glad I got them!  You get what you pay for, that's for sure! You might be thinking, "Why would I need such nice shoes?  I don't have any where fancy to go!"  Trust me.  There are always places to wear nice shoes.  GNOs, baby showers, bridal showers, weddings, company holiday parties, anniversary parties, Vegas, etc, etc.  Take my advice, buy the ONE pair of really nice shoes (in a neutral color), and forgo all the other ten pairs of mediocre shoes.  Your feet will thank you!

Falling Into You

Hi Everyone!

TGIF!  Boy, was I waiting for today like a child waiting for his milk and cookies.  It's been a really tough week.  We had to put our dog to sleep this Monday, and it's been incredibly hard on our entire family. We've had our dog, Koko, for over 10 years; she was really the sweetest dog you can have.  When I told the the kids, they all broke down in tears.  And even as I'm typing this, my eyes are welling up.  Kok kept everyone company even until the last days of her life.  She would wait for me to return home after dropping off the kids at school, so I was never lonely; she would wait downstairs with my husband until he finished working, late into the night, and walk upstairs with him when he was finally ready for bed; she'd lie down on the carpet with my daughter, who would talk to her about anything and everything, and let her put clip-on earrings on her; she'd accompany my son to his room when I told him to shower, so that he wouldn't be alone.

We had another dog that passed away a couple of years ago, but this one really hit everyone hard. Because this one was our only dog, and she was such a sweetheart.  I still find myself automatically looking under my feet after propping them up on the coffee table, making sure I don't step on her if I got up, only to realize that wait, there isn't anyone down there.  And when I enter my house through my garage, I'm still slowly opening the door because I'm used to her waiting for me there.  

We miss you, Koko!  You were the best companion to all of us.  We will never forget you, and this is a way for us to remember you always.  You'll be in our hearts forever.

Ok, well, now that I got you all crying (sorry)...back to our regular program...

It's been a little cooler these days.  Thank goodness because it's just been too hot.  I don't know if I mentioned this in my other posts, but my daughter keeps saying it over and over again, and I thought it's so funny because she says it with such enthusiasm, in that squeaky 4-year-old voice, that I had to mention it again.  "I'm DONE with the heat!!!"

So I see that suede skirts has been trending these days.  And I've been dying to try it out.  I finally got a cute one from Zara that is totally appropriate for Fall.  In a simple, dark brown color, you can dress it either up or down.  I did the two looks so you get an idea of what a great investment this piece can be!

Stripes

TGIF!!!

Gosh, it has been so hot this week.  Honestly, when you live in So Cal, you really don't experience an Autumn.  I feel like it goes straight from Summer to Winter.  It's been so hot in the past years during Halloween too.  I guess it's good for the kids with their costumes, since they won't have to double up underneath.

So with this weather, I thought it was fitting to still do a summer look.  Whoever said that you can't wear white after Labor Day clearly hasn't experienced the heat waves we've been having recently.

Stripes are all the rage for a while now.  I have to be honest, I didn't love them before.  But the more I see other people wear stripes, the more I like them.  I have a striped t-shirt, a striped sweater, and now, this cute striped dress.  Pair it with the cutest trend of slip-on sneakers, top it off with a hat, and voila!  You're ready to battle this crazy heat.

It's All Business

If you're a SAHM like me, we're probably in either workout clothes or jeans all day.  But that doesn't mean we can't dress professionally once in a blue moon.  I like the clean, crisp look of a pair of nice pants and some nice black pumps.  Dressing up professionally just makes me feel a little smarter.  I mean, I stay home and listen to talks of Minecraft and princesses all day.  So, if I can feel a little more "adult" just by dressing more like one, then I'm all for it.

I saw this pair of really cute heels on bananarepulic.com the other day, and again, just had to have them.  It's a bit on the edgy side, but pair them with a pair of nice pants, it actually makes the outfit that much more fun.  So you're looking professional but you still have an edge.  My day-to-day style isn't very adventurous, but I can sneak in little surprises to make an outfit more interesting.

And, let me tell you.  If you don't know already (and I don't know why you wouldn't know), the Portofino Shirts from Express are seriously the most versatile, comfortable, and fabulously structured blouses I have ever seen!  And very well-priced at just under $60!  They're also having a buy one, get one for $19.90 sale going on.  I probably own at least 4 of these shirts.  As far as I'm concerned, they're the best thing since sliced bread!  Depending on the style, you can wear them with shorts and a pair of cute sandals, or wear them with pants and heels like I did in this picture, and head to work looking polished.  Honestly, I love them.

Kimono Dress

Happy Friday!

I don't know about you, but I've always loved kimono dresses.  I think they're so beautiful the way they drape over your body.  The fabric used to make these dresses are always a soft and flowy material.  Makes these dresses all the more feminine and beautiful.

I saw this kimono dress on ASOS and just couldn't resist getting it.  I don't even have anywhere fancy to go with this.  So I kept thinking about how I can dress this down for everyday wear.  Hence, I've come up with two different looks for this.  As you can see, accessories, hairstyle, and makeup play big parts in differentiating a casual look from a fancy look.

Lady in Blue

Happy Friday!

I was doing my routine Amazon "stalking," (I say "stalking" because I love going through it and seeing what they have to offer) when I saw this cute dress popping up on my screen.  Albeit the model wearing the dress is so much taller than me.  But I couldn't help but notice how comfortable she looks in it!  So naturally, I bought it.  :)

What is not to like?  It's been so hot to the point where I don't feel like I'm roasting, but more like melting.  My skin is practically falling off my bones.  When is this heat wave going to end?  So when I got the dress in the mail, I immediately took off what I was wearing, and put the dress on.  Ahhh...infinitely cooler.

Because I'm not very tall, and the dress is quite long, I decided to pair the dress with strappy heels like the model on Amazon.  I know Stuart Weitzman has these cute scrappy heels that's all the rage these days, but as simple as it looks, which means it will probably stand the test of time, I was still wary of the pricy tag of $400+.  What if the style doesn't last?  So I opted for a less expensive version from Schutz.  As for hair, I wore mine in a bun, contrasting the flowing hem of the dress.  Add some gold bangles, and an adorable tote from Zara, bam!  I was ready to go out in style!  Only...it was a weekday during summer vacation...so, I had no where to go.  LOL!  Hey, at least I looked good for myself for a moment there!  :)

Bohemian Rhapsody

Happy Friday!  What are your plans this weekend?  We're having a combined birthday party for my hubby and one of our close friends.  It's a BBQ + swim party.  The kids will be causing a raucous while the adults eat, drink, and be merry.  It will be fantastic!

I've been seeing a lot of these really cute cold shoulder dresses lately on fashion boards.  And I recently went out on a whim and bought a pair of gladiator sandals.  I haven't had the chance to wear them out yet, but since I got the dress, I just might be brave enough to step out of the house with them!  Honestly, when I put this look together, I felt like I was trying to look like some kind of Greek deity going to a toga party.  Hermes has got nothing on my shoes!  Ha!  ;)

My sandals steal the spotlight with their bright gold tones, so I paired the look with some neutral and beige accessories to tone everything else down.

Casual Friday

TGIF!!!!

I've recently found a liking for very simple and neutral pieces.  Having 3 little ones to care for really doesn't give me any reasons to dress up.  So some basic pieces are my BFFs this summer.

Over here where I live, it's been scorching hot all summer.  Recently it's gotten a little cooler, so I dared to put on my cropped jeans.  Otherwise, I've been living in shorts for the last 3 months.

And it's not just me. All over Pinterest, neutral pieces dominate the fashion boards.  Distressed jeans seem to be in this season.  The trick is to accessorize strategically to make the outfit.  Accessorize with simple jewelry and add a touch of color with your handbag. Designer Crossbodies To Die For

What can I say.  I love me some handbags.  You can say I'm addicted to them.  Honestly, truth be told, if I ever win the lottery, the first thing I would do with all that money is go on a handbag shopping spree.  Move over, kids!  Mommy has priorities!  Ha!

My love for handbags started at a very young age.  I still remember the first purse I owned.  It wasn't a luxury brand, not even anything fancy.  It was just a simple denim Esprit purse.  But I was so happy when I got it.  I'd carry it everywhere!  Something about carrying a cute purse just makes me happy.  Hey, don't judge.  Everyone has their weaknesses, and handbags are mine.  :)

Gwen Stacy

Happy Saturday!

Ever since I watched "The Amazing Spider Man 2" with my fam bam, I have always wanted to do a post on a "Gwen Stacy" look.  I. Seriously. LOVE. Her. Wardrobe!  Every single outfit that Emma Stonw wore as Gwen in that movie is drool-worthy.  I didn't grow up with super hero comics since I don't have any brothers.  So I don't know the story at all.  When (spoiler alert!) Gwen fell to her death, I was devastated.  No more cute outfits to oodle at!  

Since I own a blue coat, I wanted to do a look that resembled that of Gwen's outfit in that fatal scene.  I found a blouse and a short skirt I already owned, threw on a pair of stockings and black boots, then voíla!

Professional But Not Uptight

Hi All!

My goodness, it's been almost about a month since I wrote the last post!  It's been too insanely busy these days.  I'm sure all of you with school-aged children can relate.  The end of the school year is almost as insane as the beginning of the school year.  All these activities and field trips.  On top of it all, you're trying to plan family vacations for the summer.  And not to mention trying to find summer camps to keep your little wild animals busy.  Ahhhh...the joy of motherhood.  ;)

I had to attend a meeting for the boys' school today.  I was one of the room parents for my sons' first grade class.  Today was our last meeting (hooray!).  I am normally a leggings and a simple sweater kind of mom.  But since it's meeting day, I thought I'd step it up a notch.  :)  You know, days like this, I DO try a little.

So here's what I put together last night before I fell asleep with a (very heavy) 3 year old resting on my stomach.  I wanted to look professional but not uptight.

I think I pulled off the look pretty well, don't you think?  I love the whole peplum look of my blazer.  I recently discovered Topshop (I know, I'm so old, how can I have only just discovered Topshop now?!), and came across this beautiful blazer.  I'd been looking for a structured white blazer for while, and this one works perfectly!  For Mother's Day, my hubby generously bought (ok, it's more like I bought it myself) the cross body bag for me.  I had been looking for one for months.  I looked at the Valentino Rockstud, the Celine ones, the Prada, Fendi, Chanel, you name it, I looked.  Then I finally came across this one and absolutely fell in love with it!  Cross body bags are so trendy right now, and I felt this burgundy-ish, eggplant-ish color works well with every outfit.  So far, I haven't been able to put it down!  It was a great investment!  Thank you, Babe!  ;)

Summer in April

Hi Everyone!

It sure is hot here in So Cal.  I don't know what happened...it was pouring last week then all of sudden this heat wave.  That's ok, it gives us more reason to utilize our pool.

I've been wanting to showcase this beautiful dress for a while now...just never got the chance to after we returned from Taiwan.  It is so much work just pose for pictures!  I have to put extra makeup on , curl my hair, decide on what to pair with the dress, etc.  I have a whole new appreciation for fashion bloggers now!  I'm getting a haircut tomorrow,  so I wanted to curl my hair one more time before I sport a brand new 'do.  Most moms can relate...it's such a pain having long hair when you're dealing with kids.  I find myself putting my hair in a ponytail almost all the time.  The time has come to part ways with my long hair.  See you next year!

Enough about the hair.  I wrote this post to tell you about my clothes.  I saw this Alice & Olivia dress online one day and just had to have it.  I love it because it has a halter top, which is not very commonly seen.  Nevermind that it completely exposes my back; I can only wear it when I go out with either my husband or my girlfriends.  ;)   I LOVE this dress.  I wish I had more opportunity to wear it!  Hint, hint to the hubby!  ;)

The color of the dress is silver, I'd normally go with silver accessories, but I thought the red in my Saint Laurent clutch would pop against the silver background.  And since there was gold on the clutch, I paired my accessories to match the bag.

Luck Be A Lady

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Since I dressed all 3 kids in green, and all the itty bitty pre-school kids at K's school were wearing green, I thought I'd do a St. Patrick's Day look.

I was rummaging through my closet, trying to find a green shirt to wear, when I came across this green skirt I got years ago.  Who knew that it would rise to the occasion?  Since the skirt was past my knees, giving it a retro feel, I decided I'd do a collared shirt to complete the whole retro look.  Here it is!

Tinker Bell Mother/Daughter Outfit

I had to do a post of me and my daughter's matching Tinker Bell outfits from her birthday party.  I actually bought this dress last year for my sister's bridal shower.  The theme colors were lime green and hot pink, so I chose a lime green dress.  During her shower, she mentioned that I looked like Tinker Bell.  And a light bulb went on in my head.  I thought to myself, what a perfect theme for K's 3rd birthday!  I have left over invitation paper that I can use, and this dress that I can wear!  So there you go, I wore the outfit for the party.  To complete the look, I used a Hot Bun bun maker and rolled my hair into a high bun.  My heels has white flowers in the front that looks like the pom poms in front of Tinker Bell's sandals.  So I put those on too.

I was just taking pictures with K when I thought that I should take pictures of my outfit and post on my blog.  So I told my husband to take some of me in my usual pose, hands on the hips, when I saw K trying to imitate me.  At first I told her, "Can you step aside for a minute?  Can Mommy take some pictures by myself?"  But she just stood there with her hands on her hips!  So I said, "Let's do a look together then!"  Gotta love my little love bug!  She's the most adorable little fairy I know!

Frozen

Ok, so it's not exactly the Disney version, but I wanted to channel my inner Elsa for my daughter.  :)

I kept trying to think of something blue I can wear - I rummaged my closet, and the only thing I can find was this pale blue cardigan and my blue coat.  Works for me!  I also found a skirt that kind of reminds me of the snow swirls conjured up by Elsa when she began singing "Let It Go."  I even wanted to do an Elsa braid for the look too, but that just didn't work out.  Somehow it looks better on an animated Disney princess than it does on a mother of three.  Go figure.  ;)

And of course, to complete the look, nothing says "Frozen" like a snowflake statement necklace.  :)

I am actually writing this on Sunday, as I'm watching the gorgeous stars walking across the Red Carpet.  So I don't know what the outcome of the awards are.  But I do have to tell you this - ever since I started blogging about clothes, and it's only been, what, a month?  I see the whole fashion thing in a different light!  Really!  It's amazing how I pay more attention to the shapes and the forms of the actresses' dresses.   I'm loving Jennifer Lawrence's red dress, Lupita Nyong'o's GORGEOUS baby blue dress, and so far, I saw a glimpse of Goldie Hawn's dress with those glittery off-the-shoulder sleeves.  Anyway, there's so much more to come, and so much I want to say about the dresses, I think it's best to just leave the Oscar talk to those who blog about the Oscars!

On with my own stuff!  So...I'm running low on new clothes to post on my blog!  Which means...I need to buy more clothes so I can put in more posts...I don't think my hubby likes the sound of that...sorry Babe!  ;)

I was thinking up a look that I can blog about all this weekend.  It was raining non-stop all weekend so I had plenty of time to stay indoors and think up something.  I remembered that I bought a really cute black skater skirt not long ago from H&M.  I wanted to pair it with my beloved butterfly sweater that I bought last year from J Crew.

I don't wear multiple colors at once very often, but I thought that yellow and red works well together since they're both warm tones.  So here I am, for the first time, mixing colors on an outfit.  The look is pretty youthful looking, so I decided to do my hair kinda punk rock-ish.  I thought the look was pulled off pretty well!

My dog tried to make an appearance too!

Hi Everyone!

In honor of awards season, I thought I'd do a look that relates to the little gold men.  No, this is definitely not a red carpet look - how many of us get to wear designer gowns and attend such a fancy function?  Not me, that's for sure.  Therefore, with this look, you can celebrate awards season while going about your day-to-day routine; no fancy functions needed!

I recently acquired a really cute white maxi skirt from ASOS, which you can find here.   I love skirts.  I am the ultimate girly-girl, and I love everything that enhance's a woman's femininity.  Dresses, skirts, heels, jewelry, I love them all!  As soon as I got my skirt, I've been wracking my brain trying to find something to pair it with.  Lucky for me, I bought these sequined tank tops two years ago at Old Navy, when sequins were all the rage.  Since this is so old, it's no where to be found, but here is a really cute one from Forever 21, that would look super cute with this skirt as well.  Since the sequins look so festive and formal, I wanted to tone the whole look down a bit, so I decided to put on a pair of metallic wedges, which I got a long time ago as well, but I found these really cute ones here that looks almost exactly like the ones I'm wearing..

For accessories, I did chandelier earrings that I got from Francesca's a long time ago, here are some cute gold ones.  The bangles are from J Crew, and you can find them here.  I'm holding a gold Kate Spade clutch that I got last year for a Girl's Night in Vegas.  Here's a cute similar one from Marc Jacobs, and another really cute one here from Tory Burch.

Valentine's Day Romance - Part II

Happy Tuesday!  I hope you all had a great Valentine's Day and President's Day weekend.  For me, today is the first day of the week (long weekend for the kids), so it was the first day that I was able to sit down and blog.  I've been planning and working tirelessly for Baby K's birthday party.  It will be so beautiful!  I can't wait to show pictures to you all!

I make it a point NOT to go anywhere for dinner on Valentine's Day.  I have nothing against celebrating love, it's just that with 3 young children, we really don't do crowded areas too well.  I find the long wait for table and seats, and even when you're seated, the long wait for food, not worth it.  And to me, it's just more fun to include the children.  Valentine's Day celebrates love, in all shapes and sizes!  So I've made it a tradition (ok, it only started last year, but still...) to make a special Valentine's Day dinner at home.  All food celebrate love.  Whatever I can get in heart shapes, I get.  This year (and last) were heart-shaped pastas.  Then my husband bought heart-shaped sushi and chocolate covered strawberries.  The adults drank wine, the kids had their milk, and we all toasted to the occasion.  The kids LOVE this!  C said, "Mom, thank you for the best dinner ever!  Cheers!"  It's really adorable.  I live for moments like this.  :)  The next morning, they had heart-shaped bagels for breakfast.  The love continued!

Although we didn't go out for Valentine's Day, I still tried to dress up for the occasion.  I had a meeting to attend, so this time, I actually HAD somewhere important to go!  LOL.

Except for the first outfit on my blog, where my husband took the picture, I took pictures myself for all the other ones. Hence, the awkwardness of the poses!  With this one, since it was a Sunday, my husband was able to take it for me.  My smile was genuine - I couldn't stop laughing because I was so embarrassed!

 
Here I'm wearing a skirt I got from Target sometime last December.  I love it because it fits me like a glove.  Here's a similar one. Have I mentioned how much I love A-Line skirts??  They make you look so feminine, while hiding all the flaws at the same time.  The blush pink top is from Nordstrom, you can find similar ones here and here. I got my shoes online somewhere a long time ago, sorry I can't remember!  But here is a similar pair in nude by Nine West.  My necklace is from J Crew, here's a similar one.  if you're not willing to spend that much on a necklace, here's one on sale, and will have a similar look. My earrings are from Francesca's, these here from Forever 21 are similar.
